Akagera National Park Market Analysis and Financial Feasibility Study

Business planning support in determining to what extend existing facilities should be redeveloped and new additions be contemplated in the Akagera National Park.

Project Scope

Horwath HTL provided comprehensive business planning support to assess the commercial viability of redevelopment and new developments within Akagera National Park. The project involved evaluating the redevelopment of the existing 4-star, 60-room Akagera Game Lodge, including enhancements to its food and beverage outlets and meeting facilities. Additionally, the Client proposed the development of a 5-star tented camp within the park to attract higher-yielding clientele and diversify the park’s accommodation offerings.

The market analysis investigated local and regional tourism trends, demand drivers, and competitive positioning, offering insights into the potential market performance of both the redeveloped lodge and the proposed luxury tented camp. The financial feasibility study included projections of capital expenditure, revenue, operational costs, and anticipated returns under various scenarios.

The analysis provided the Client with an independent assessment of the viability of their investment, offering strategic recommendations for optimizing the redevelopment of existing facilities and successfully introducing a luxury tented camp to complement Akagera National Park’s offerings. These recommendations aimed to enhance the park’s appeal to both domestic and international travelers, ensuring sustainable growth and maximizing return on investment.
