Feasibility Study for Beachfront, Resort-Style Hotel

The assessment examined the viability of the proposed resort in Tonga by evaluating market dynamics, competitive positioning, and operational strategies within the South Pacific resort hotel sector.

Project Scope

Horwath HTL conducted a feasibility study to assess the viability of a proposed beachfront, resort-style hotel in Tonga. This project focused on evaluating the market dynamics, competitive positioning, and operational strategies required to establish a successful hospitality offering in the South Pacific resort sector.

The study began with a comprehensive analysis of the local and regional tourism market. This included examining demand drivers such as international arrivals, leisure travel trends, and the appeal of Tonga’s natural assets, such as its pristine beaches and marine environments. The assessment also considered external factors such as accessibility, regional economic conditions, and government tourism initiatives, which could influence the resort’s performance.

A competitive analysis was undertaken to evaluate existing and planned hospitality offerings in Tonga and neighbouring destinations. This helped identify opportunities for differentiation and competitive advantages for the proposed resort. The analysis explored target customer segments, pricing strategies, and preferred amenities to ensure the resort would align with market expectations while offering a unique value proposition.

Operational strategies were developed to address the challenges of operating in a remote island location, including logistics, staffing, and supply chain considerations. Recommendations were made for sustainable practices that leveraged Tonga’s natural resources and cultural heritage, aligning with global trends in eco-tourism and authentic travel experiences.

The financial feasibility of the project was assessed through revenue projections, cost modelling, and sensitivity analyses. This provided the client with a clear understanding of potential returns on investment and the financial sustainability of the resort under varying scenarios.

The feasibility study concluded with strategic recommendations for positioning the resort to attract high-value leisure travellers while contributing to Tonga’s growing tourism sector. The insights provided enabled the client to make informed decisions regarding the development, ensuring alignment with market opportunities and long-term success in the competitive South Pacific resort market.
