Asia Pacific: Hotel Sustainability Data Trends 2020
By Robert Hecker on October 8, 2021
The fifth annual Asia Pacific Hotel Sustainability Data Trends 2020 Report is now live with expanded insight!
Horwath HTL has produced the report in partnership with Greenview, which supports hospitality organizations with their corporate responsibility and sustainability platforms to drive profitability, streamline data management, keep up with trends and provide effective communications for their stakeholders by leveraging the power of data, common guidelines, best practices and innovation.
The participation of over 2,000 hotels and serviced apartments across the region is encouraging. The large data set confirms that the vast majority of hotels in the region are paying attention to sustainability.
The Report highlights key trends in usage and cost for both energy and water categories, as well as top trending best practices grouped by common, established, emerging and innovative practices.
These key findings serve as a benchmark to understand the region’s status on implementing sustainability throughout the different areas of hotel operations. The data set includes 2,095 hotels across 16 countries (1,857 full-service and 238 limited service).
The hotel industry is poised to move into a next phase of sustainability, where the new technology, innovative programmes, and solutions needed to solve climate change become more widespread across the region’s portfolio and pipeline. Next generation best practices such as renewable energy and water recycling are still nascent in the region, but we see the trend toward them.
Moving into the next phase will require raising awareness and scaling of solutions worldwide. That’s why we’re proud to support the industry’s effort to benchmark best practices in sustainability, with the results of this report contributing to the Green Lodging and Hotel Footprinting Tool, other freely available initiatives for hoteliers to understand how their properties are positioned in sustainability.
