Development of Tourism Digital Map

Horwath HTL is leading the development of a comprehensive digital tourism map for the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) as part of a strategic initiative to enhance cultural, historical, and religious tourism along the heritage corridor. This project focuses on leveraging technology to support the growth of Rwanda's tourism sector while promoting sustainable practices.

This project, focused on Tourism, Leisure, Strategy & Planning, will help RDB showcase Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage while supporting sustainable tourism development. The digital map will serve as both a marketing tool and a practical resource for visitors, contributing to the overall growth of the tourism sector in Rwanda.

Project Scope

The development process includes the following key steps:

Data Collection and Geo-Analysis: Horwath HTL will gather and analyze extensive geographic data related to the cultural, historical, and religious tourism sites along the heritage corridor. This information will be used to map out key locations and assess tourism potential, considering accessibility, infrastructure, and nearby services.

Creation of a Comprehensive Database: A robust database will be developed to catalog all heritage corridor tourist sites and related facilities, such as accommodations, transport options, and visitor amenities. This database will serve as the foundation for the digital map and ensure organized, easily accessible information for both tourists and stakeholders.

Digitalization of Tourism Information: All collected tourism data will be digitalized to make it easily available through user-friendly platforms. The digitalized information will include site descriptions, facility details, and logistical data, ensuring that users have all the relevant details at their fingertips.

Development of a Digital Tourism Map: The final product will be a digital map that highlights all the important cultural, historical, and religious tourism sites along the heritage corridor. Designed for ease of use, the map will include features like directions, nearby attractions, and various tourism filters, enhancing the travel experience for both domestic and international visitors.

Training for RDB Staff and Stakeholders: Horwath HTL will conduct comprehensive training sessions for RDB staff and key stakeholders to ensure they are equipped to use and manage the digital map effectively. This training will cover map usage, data management, and updates, empowering the team to optimize its use in promoting tourism.

Data Hosting and Sustainability: The digital tourism map and associated database will be hosted on a secure national server. This ensures the long-term sustainability and continuous update of the platform, providing an ongoing resource for Rwanda’s tourism development efforts.
