Bio

Douglas' career includes senior regional and directorial roles with leading hospitality and lifestyle organisations such as Soho House, Aman Resorts, and California's Esalen Institute, where he has guided projects that redefine the relationship between quality hospitality, community wellbeing, and environmental stewardship.

Douglas brings extensive expertise in destination development, wellbeing strategy, and sustainable business design. His consulting work focuses on creating innovative models that align financial performance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, helping clients position their hotels, resorts, and destinations at the forefront of an evolving global marketplace.

Drawing on his background in collaboration with indigenous communities, private landowners, educational institutions, and tourism ventures, Douglas develops experiences and business frameworks that foster reciprocity, reconciliation, and long-term resilience. His work is guided by the belief that authentic community engagement and environmental integrity can coexist with exceptional guest experiences and sound commercial performance.

Douglas, of Ngāi Tahu descent, continues his tertiary te reo Māori study through Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
