About the module

A new licence usually arrives with a sign-in link and not much else. A few weeks later some people use Claude every day and most have tried it twice. This session closes that gap in one sitting. Everyone signs in on the organisation’s account, sets Claude up for their own role, and learns the one skill everything else depends on: a brief that gets a usable answer. Then the room works on real material: a document to question, a research question with sources to check, and an Excel file to analyse, with the numbers checked and a tidy workbook back. People set up a Project so Claude stops needing the same explanation every time, see a Skill run a repeated task the same way every time, and get a quick taste of the rest: Claude Design, Claude inside Excel, PowerPoint and Word, Claude in Chrome, Cowork and the connectors to email and files. Everyone leaves knowing what to try next and when the Claude Masterclass would help.

Who it is for

People who have just received a Claude licence, or who have had one for a while without getting much from it. No earlier AI experience is needed. Each participant brings a laptop with access to the organisation’s Claude account, checked the week before.

Learning objective

Set Claude up for your own role on the organisation’s account, brief it well enough to get usable work on the first or second attempt, use it on your own documents, Excel files and research questions, get a taste of everything else Claude can do, from Skills to Claude Design, and leave knowing what to try next inside the organisation’s AI policy.

Set Up and Ground Rules

Everyone signs in on the organisation’s account and sets Claude up for their role: preferences, memory, a first look around, and anything worth keeping carried across from a personal account. Then the organisation’s AI policy, worked through as real cases: what may go in, what may not, and what gets checked before it reaches a guest, member or owner.

You leave with: A working setup, and the policy understood through examples.

45 min

How Claude Answers, and How to Brief It

A short demonstration of a confident wrong answer, and what Claude is doing when it gives one. Then the brief in four parts, Task, Context, Boundaries and Deliverable, and the repair loop for output that misses, practised in pairs on tasks from participants’ own week.

You leave with: Two briefs that produced usable output on your own work.

30 min

Documents and Research You Can Check

A contract, report or policy questioned with every answer traced back to the page, then a research question from the participant’s own work run with web search, with each source opened and checked before anything is used.

You leave with: A document question and a research question answered, with sources checked.

45 min

Simple Data Analysis in Excel

An Excel file goes in: a month of revenue, a booking export or a cost report. Participants ask plain questions of it, get breakdowns, totals and trends, and check two or three figures against the sheet themselves. Claude then returns something usable: a cleaned-up workbook, a summary tab or a chart. Where the organisation has Claude in Excel, the same work is shown inside the workbook itself. The habit taught is the check, because a confident wrong number is worse than none.

You leave with: A real question answered from a spreadsheet, the figures checked, and a workbook or chart to keep.

25 min

A Project for Your Role

Each participant sets up a Project for one part of their role, with standing instructions and the reference files Claude should always have, then runs one of the morning’s tasks inside it to see the difference.

You leave with: A Project of your own, already used once.

20 min

A First Look at Skills

What a Skill is: a saved set of instructions Claude follows the same way every time. Participants run one, either a ready-made Skill such as producing a formatted Excel or Word file, or one the organisation has already built, then each names a task of their own that repeats often enough to become a Skill. Building one properly is the centre of the Claude Masterclass.

You leave with: A Skill run once, and one task of your own that could become one.

35 min

Claude Design and the Rest of Claude

Hands-on first: each participant takes the morning’s analysis or research note into Claude Design and turns it into a one-page brief or a few slides in the house style. Then a quick tour, a few minutes each, of the rest: Claude inside PowerPoint and Word, Claude in Chrome reading a page and working through a website, Cowork working through a folder of documents and running a task on a schedule, connectors to the organisation’s email, calendar and files, small interactive tools built in the chat, and the mobile app with voice. The aim is to know what exists and which parts matter for each role.

You leave with: A designed one-pager or slides from your own work, and a map of what Claude can do.

10 min

Your Week Ahead

Each participant chooses a few pieces of real work coming up in the next week to try Claude on, and saves the requests that worked today, so they reuse them rather than start from a blank page.

You leave with: A short list of real work to try next, and requests worth reusing.

What you leave with

A working setup

Signed in on the organisation’s account, with preferences set for your role and anything worth keeping carried across from a personal account.

The briefing method, in short

The four-part brief and the repair loop, practised on tasks from your own week.

A first analysis in Excel

A question answered from a real spreadsheet, with the figures checked, and a workbook or chart you could hand to someone.

A Project of your own

Instructions and reference files for one part of your role, so Claude starts from what it already knows.

A map of what Claude can do

A first try of Claude Design, and a short look at every other part of Claude, so you know what exists and which parts matter for your role.

A plan for the week ahead

The pieces of your own work to try Claude on first, the requests that worked today saved to reuse, one task that could become a Skill, and a sense of when the Claude Masterclass would help.

How we tailor it

Built for Claude. A version for another tool, such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or Gemini, is built on request.

The ground rules are the organisation’s own AI policy, worked through as real cases.

Documents, Excel files and research questions come from participants’ own work, agreed with each department beforehand, with a prepared hotel pack, including a sample revenue workbook, for anyone without their own.

The tour covers what the organisation’s Claude plan and admin settings allow; anything switched off is shown rather than tried.

Where people have already done AI Foundations, the briefing section is shortened and the time goes to Excel, Skills and Claude Design.
