Strategic Advice for Lanith Hotel Laos
Horwath HTL was engaged by Lao National Institute for Tourism and Hospitality (LANITH) to conduct a market and financial feasibility study for the development of a hotel next to the existing school, with an objective to attract a private sector sponsor.
Objectives of the development planning were to maximize private sector interest in the project and provide recommendations for a sustainable business model, taking into account expected future market dynamics. Realistic performance and cash flow projections were provided to help determine the likely capital investment required and the indicative returns on the invested capital.
Project Scope
Our consultancy was engaged to support the development of the Lanith Hotel, an integral component of the Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (LANITH) in Vientiane, Laos. This project aimed to create a hospitality training facility that would elevate service standards across the nation’s tourism sector.
We began by conducting a comprehensive needs assessment to understand the educational and operational requirements of the institute. This involved close collaboration with LANITH’s academic leaders and stakeholders to align the hotel’s design and functionality with its educational objectives. The goal was to ensure that the facility would serve both as a commercial hotel and a practical training ground for students.
Our team provided strategic guidance on the architectural design, focusing on creating spaces conducive to hands-on learning in real-world hospitality settings. This included advising on the layout of guest rooms, food and beverage outlets, and conference facilities to facilitate effective training while maintaining operational efficiency.
In partnership with the project’s architects, we ensured that the design adhered to international hospitality standards and incorporated sustainable practices. This approach aimed to provide students with exposure to best practices in environmental stewardship within the industry.
We also assisted in developing the hotel’s operational framework, including standard operating procedures, service protocols, and quality assurance measures. This framework was designed to offer students practical experience in a professionally managed environment, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry application.
Additionally, we supported the recruitment and training of key management personnel who would oversee both the hotel’s operations and the training programmes. This dual-role approach was intended to foster a learning culture rooted in industry expertise and academic excellence.
The Lanith Hotel project exemplified our commitment to integrating educational objectives with commercial viability. By focusing on strategic planning, collaborative design, and operational excellence, we contributed to the creation of a facility poised to enhance hospitality education and service quality in Laos.
