Horwath HTL announces Robert Hecker stepping down as Managing Director, Pacific Asia, and appointment of Matt Gebbie

Singapore, May 2026 — Horwath HTL announces that Robert Hecker is stepping down as Managing Director, Pacific Asia, and the appointment of Matt Gebbie to the role, effective May 2026.

Robert Hecker joined Horwath HTL in the Pacific Asia region in 1988 and has led the practice as Managing Director since 1999, overseeing operations across offices in Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, and Bali. Over the course of his career, he has been directly involved in the planning and analysis of hundreds of projects across the region, building one of the most respected advisory practices in Asia Pacific hospitality. In 2024, he was honoured with the HICAP Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising his exceptional contributions to the advancement of the hotel industry across Asia-Pacific. Robert will remain connected to the practice in an advisory role.

Robert Hecker said:

I’m pleased to be able to hand over the reins to such a qualified and trusted partner over the years such as Matt. I am proud of what we built together and excited to see the new business lines the team are developing for continuing to be a knowledge leader for the regional hotel industry and helping our clients navigate ever changing challenges and create success.

Matt Gebbie succeeds Robert Hecker as Managing Director, Pacific Asia, effective May 2026. Matt has been with Horwath HTL since 2004, initially based in Singapore before relocating to Jakarta to lead the Indonesia practice from 2013 to 2026, when he returned to Singapore. Over the past two decades, Matt has worked on 200+ projects across Asia and the Indian Ocean, advising hotel management, owners, developers and investors on hotel and resort feasibility, operator selection, asset repositioning and strategic advisory. He brings deep market knowledge and established client relationships across the region to the role.

Matt Gebbie said:

Robert set a high bar over nearly three decades. The relationships he built, the people he developed, and the mark he has left on hospitality in this region are a testament to a remarkable career. I am proud to be stepping into the role and look forward to working with our talented team to carry that legacy forward into 2026 and beyond.
