Horwath HTL’s Turkey office recently completed a comprehensive study for AFD (Agence Française de Développement) and TSKB (Türkiye Sınai Kalkınma Bankası) focusing on financing sustainable projects in Turkey’s tourism sector. This project aimed to support the transition towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly tourism model, in line with global trends and the growing demand for responsible travel experiences. Our study provided a thorough analysis of the current state of tourism in Turkey, identifying areas with significant potential for sustainable development, such as energy-efficient hotel operations, waste reduction programs, and the promotion of ecotourism destinations.
We assessed the financial viability of these projects and provided detailed recommendations on how banks like AFD and TSKB could structure their financing products to support green investments in tourism. The study also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve long-term sustainability goals. Key topics addressed included regulatory frameworks, incentives for green certifications, and innovative financing mechanisms such as green bonds and sustainability-linked loans.
Our findings offered a strategic roadmap for AFD and TSKB to promote sustainable tourism projects in Turkey, aligning with both environmental objectives and the economic development of the country’s tourism sector, ensuring a balance between profitability and sustainability.
