Tourism Experience

Tourism Business Training Programme

The goal of this project for the African Development Bank, was to improve the skills of tourism businesses in five specific sub-sectors in Lesotho.

The team identified the training needs of these sub-sectors and the gaps in skills that could be addressed through short-term training, mentoring, or coaching. The aim was to equip the selected clusters with the right skills to boost job creation.

The project also involved building a group of tourism training consultants and delivering a capacity-building program based on the identified needs.

Project Scope

The first task was to analyse the current skills and identify gaps in the five tourism sub-sectors, followed by recommending interventions to address business development challenges. Next, the needs of the selected clusters were identified based on the assessment. A detailed training manual was created to guide trainers in developing skills for the tourism industry.

Workshops were organized to get feedback and validate the training needs assessment and capacity-building program. Training materials and tools were developed for both trainers and businesses to use during and after training. The team then designed the training content and a detailed plan for five sub-sectors: accommodation, tour operations, event organizing, tour guiding, and crafting. Finally, the training was delivered to businesses from the five selected tourism clusters.
