Horwath HTL Expert Andrew Cohan and Industry Colleagues Share Best Practices for First Time Developers in the Caribbean

Joined by executives in brand development, architecture and design, law firms and hotel management companies, Horwath HTL Miami Managing Director Andrew Cohan moderated a dynamic and insightful panel at the Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference & Operations Summit (CHICOS) which was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico November 10-11. As an experienced consultant for developers of projects in South Florida, Central America and the Caribbean, Cohan facilitated a discussion aimed to guide interested parties who are looking to establish hospitality projects in the Caribbean region.

Among the many noteworthy points shared, panelists stressed the need to find the right consultant who has experience with the specific island of development in the Caribbean.

Cohan noted that speakers who participated in other panels at CHICOS talked about the need to get creative and think differently in order to finance new development. Working with the knowledgeable locals on each island who understand the protocols and processes for proper development is also a must.

Cohan’s panel included Alejandro Acevedo, Regional Vice President, Development, Mexico and the Caribbean for Marriott International; Jonathan Nehmer, Managing Partner of Jonathan Nehmer + Associates architecture; Lance Shaner, Chairman and CEO of Shaner Hotels; Matthew Norton, Partner – K&L Gates; and Michael Register, Partner, Trust Hospitality.
