Evaluating Food and Beverage Market Entry Opportunities in Muscat

Mohsin Haider Darwish LLC engaged Horwath HTL to evaluate entry into Muscat’s F&B sector, compare brands and concepts, identify market gaps and establish the indicative commercial attractiveness of shortlisted opportunities.

The project challenge

Mohsin Haider Darwish LLC was considering diversification into Muscat’s food and beverage sector and had begun discussions with several international brands. The client needed to move beyond a single-restaurant feasibility assessment and compare multiple concepts objectively, ensuring that any selected opportunity matched consumer demand, market gaps, brand relevance and the company’s strategic and investment priorities.

The solution

Horwath HTL developed a comprehensive market-entry assessment covering current and upcoming competitors, consumer preferences across premium, casual and quick-service formats, concept positioning, menu appeal and local adaptability. The work examined whitespace in cuisine, service model and experience, digital engagement and consumer sentiment, location options, demographic and psychographic segments, delivery versus dine-in behaviour, generational preferences, brand perception and franchise considerations. Shortlisted concepts were compared using indicative capital cost per square metre, high-level revenue and operating-cost projections, profitability, key return indicators and sensitivity analysis.

Business value & impact

The study gives MHD a comparative roadmap for selecting brands and concepts and sequencing further due diligence. It connects consumer and market evidence with location, franchise and financial considerations, helping management distinguish attractive opportunities from crowded or weakly differentiated segments. The resulting framework reduces early-stage uncertainty, focuses investment discussions and provides a disciplined basis for progressing the most commercially suitable F&B opportunities in Muscat.
